WELCOME TO MADISON ELEMENTARY

Madison Elementary School is located in the heart of Winona. The school shares a neighborhood with Winona State University and is in walking distance of historic downtown Winona. The school's educational program serves students in kindergarten through grade four. The district's Developmental Cognitive Disabilities program is housed at Madison.
Madison is also home the Maxwell Children’s Center. This program offers preschool education and daycare by licensed teachers and Winona State University students to children 18 months to 5 years of age. It is the result of a partnership with Winona State University and the City of Winona. Currently operating at capacity, this program is housed in two classrooms and has a new developmentally appropriate playground for the children enrolled.

The instructional staff at Madison Elementary is comprised of highly qualified, caring individuals who strive to help the students achieve significant annual progress in reading, math and all academic areas. Because of our proximity to Winona State University, our school benefits from the services of many students who volunteer on the playground and in classrooms or who are involved in classroom field experiences as part of their education programs.

Parental involvement is a valued part of the Madison Elementary community. The school site team meets monthly to monitor student achievement and safety. The Madison PTA is an active group that supports the students and staff through fundraising efforts. For the past three years their main fundraising event has been a Walk-a-thon that supports fitness and allows the school PTA to keep 100% of the profits raised to support Madison programs and services. Many parents volunteer their time to participate in school-wide programs and events. Winona Area Public Schools Policies and Procedures are clearly outlined for parents in the school Parent/Student Handbook which is distributed to all families and is also available on-line at the district website. Open communications between the home and school are encouraged and supported.
